It’s about time we learn additional information about what to expect. Essentially a compilation of mobile titles telling the entirety of the Final Fantasy narrative, this mobile series will offer a bite-sized chunk of story for fans looking to see it all unfold. One of the most intriguing parts of the recent Final Fantasy VII Remake news reveal was a pair of mobile games based in the same universe, particularly Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis. More details on Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis Given that it’s one of the most hotly-anticipated titles on Square Enix’s slate, it’s high time we hear more about it. It’s possible Square Enix could surprise everyone with a bombshell new trailer or details at the game. Now that it’s been another few months since that hotly-anticipated event, it’s about time to expect new details on the game. Though rumored, additional information about the game never arrived during The Game Awards in December. We were treated to a set of lush visuals and a taste of what’s to come for the newest entry in the Final Fantasy series. It’s been a few months since Final Fantasy XVI made its debut during Sony’s September 2020 PlayStation showcase. Ahead of tomorrow’s presentation, let’s take a look at a few possible revelations that we could potentially expect from the upcoming show. This is the first digital direct event from Square Enix, so even though the company has lined out much of what we can expect from it, there may still be some surprises lurking around the corner. The showcase, which is set to debut on March 18 at 10am PDT/5pm GMT, is jam-packed with a series of information on games like the latest entry in the Life is Strange series as well as Outriders, Marvel’s Avengers, Just Cause Mobile, Balan Wonderworld, Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary, and new Square Enix Montreal titles. The PS3 store inevitably will close down sooner or later, and unless Square provides a remake or rerelease, the only way to play Vagrant Story will be to hunt down a potentially expensive copy on eBay.If you’ve been missing regular updates on upcoming games from your favorite developers, look no further than this week’s Square Enix Presents Spring 2021 event. Vagrant Story has never been updated or remade since its original release, and though it's available as a PS1 classic on PS3, there have been reports that PS3 and Vita games are becoming unplayable. At the very least, versions of the other Ivalice games are already available on modern consoles or mobile devices. Modern updates are only half the issue, however. A remake for Vagrant Story with new graphics and a little hand-holding could help reestablish it as one of Square Enix's best properties. So far, Tactics Ogre Reborn appears to be accessible for newcomers without diluting the original's mechanics. A remake has a lot to offer, as the same complexity can also make it difficult for new players looking to experience the original. With Matsuno teasing that a Vagrant Story 2 could be in development, now is the perfect time for a remake or remaster.Īs an old-fashioned action RPG, Vagrant Story's complex and customizable combat would appeal to SRPG fans while also feeling fresh in Square's crowded release schedule. Combat is balanced between chaining attacks to deal extensive damage, and a Risk factor that functions similarly to fatigue and negatively impacts Ashley's abilities. While modern action RPGs can sometimes end up repetitive or button-mashy, Vagrant Story's combat retains the sophistication that defines the combat of all the Ivalice games. Though it takes place in the same world as Tactics, Vagrant Story is an action RPG. After the other Direct reveals, the Switch is starting to feel like the new home of SRPGs and farming sims. Just from Square Enix, Triangle Strategy released earlier this year, The Diofield Chronicle is releasing this month, and Square Enix's Nintendo Direct announcements confirmed remakes of the first three Front Mission games. Strategy games in general are seeing a surge with promising new titles like Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. And it would be a welcome return, if Square Enix wasn't currently flooding the market with strategy RPGs. That being the case, the most obvious candidate to follow Tactics Ogre: Reborn in the remake factory would be Final Fantasy Tactics. Tactics Ogre is the spiritual predecessor to Final Fantasy Tactics, which itself is considered one of the best strategy RPGs ever made and a staple FF entry.
